 beach, nor it's evocative landscape of dormant volcanoes - this is a holiday retreat where you will
escape the stress and pressure of modern life and time seems to stand still!

  

Porto Santo may only cover some 42 square kilometres, but there is no shortage of places to see
and things to do. There is of course the wonderful beach and ocean that you can swim in all year
round, but also tranquil walks, golf, horse riding, scuba diving, go-carting, sight seeing tours
amongst it's many attractions.

Facts about Porto Santo

1. Porto Santo was inhabited before it's larger neighbour Madeira!
2. Christopher Columbus lived on the island for a while.
3. The Island boasts a 18 hole golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros
4. The island is blessed with a wonderful all year round climate - not
too hot in the summer, but still warm during the winter months!
5. To reach the island from Madeira there is a daily ferry from Funchal,
which takes just over 2 hours. You can also fly to and from Madeira to
Porto Santo -  flight takes about 20 minutes. The runway at Porto Santo,
unlike at Madeira is very long and can take large commercial jet planes!
6. The sand that forms the beautiful sandy beach is said to have
therapeutic qualities - particularly for arithis.
7. The population of Porto Santo is approx 5,000 and most people
live in the main town of Vila Baleira.
